Moonstar has made vulcanised footwear in Kurume, near Fukuoka, since 1873.
Every single part of the manufacturing process is treated with the utmost attention. In a series of manual steps, scrupulously selected, locally sourced raw materials are moulded, cut, glued, and sewn with care.
Once assembled, the shoes are vulcanised in kilns – large pottery ovens – in which the sole and upper are fused.
Moonstar manufacturing draws from the best traditional processes to make classic sneakers like no other: sturdy, flexible, and comfortable from the very first moment you slip them on.
Together with Moonstar, Arpenteur designed the SIDEWALK, a model that blends the essence of a classic gym shoe with references to 1980s skate culture such as the mid upper and the bumper on the outsole.
Sourced in Japan, the water-repellent Ventile© cotton gabardine and canvas lining feature a distinct texture and character. With the SIDEWALK, they wanted to create sneakers offering enough protection to be worn throughout the year.
